Sandeep Patil’s selection panel meets on Monday to announce the team for the Test series-opener against England in Ahmedabad.

The widely-discussed ‘No 6 Test slot’ ceases to be a debate for now. With his all-round show in the warm-up game against England and the spectacular double century in the Duleep Trophy, Yuvraj Singh has easily stolen a march over his peers.

Sandeep Patil’s selection panel meets on Monday to announce the team for the Test series-opener against England in Ahmedabad.

Yuvraj, by virtue of his stellar form, selects himself. Debate, if any, could be over his fitness. Although skipper MS Dhoni said Yuvraj was the best judge of his fitness, it’s unlikely that the selectors will ignore him.

But, the selection of India’s reserve batsman may not be a straightforward affair. Both Ajinkya Rahane and Manoj Tiwary have a claim to be in the Test squad. Raina, however, could be persisted with despite just one good knock in three innings in the home series against New Zealand.

There were injury scares for Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan on Sunday, but their team managements dismissed them as "minor".
