World Cup 2015: Graeme Smith concerned over Proteas' terrible chase record at WC

Former South African skipper Graeme Smith has raised concerns over his country's squad's inability to chase down targets, stating that their win-loss record stands at 3-10, while chasing, since the last World Cup.

South Africa have never won the World Cup despite being one of the top sides in modern day cricket.

South Africa lost both their Pool B ties against India and Pakistan while batting second and managed to earn six points while batting first against the other opponents in the tournament.

In his column for the ICC, Smith observed that South Africa's win-loss record, when chasing 240 or more since the last World Cup, is 3-10 whilst they only have a 39 percent win percentage when chasing in one-day internationals since January 2013, Sport24 reported.

On the contrary, the former skipper opined that when batting first, South Africa has a 24-8 win-loss record, which is the best among all Test playing nations during the same period.

Admitting that AB de Villiers' men have to do a lot of work in very little time, Smith said that even with one pool game to go their attention would have shifted to the likely quarter-final opponents of either Sri Lanka or Australia who would definitely have noted that their chasing travails continued.
