Wisden selects Dhoni as captain of all-time Indian XI while legendary skipper is omitted

The celebrated team has been picked ahead of India's 500th Test which will be played against New Zealand in Kanpur from Thursday.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named the captain of the all-time India Test XI chosen by cricket magazine Wisden while one of the most successful Indian skippers, Sourav Ganguly didn't find a place in the team. The celebrated team has been picked ahead of India's 500th Test which will be played against New Zealand in Kanpur from Thursday.

The openers in the side are Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag, followed by Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, all-rounder Kapil Dev and Dhoni the wicket-keeper batsman.

The bowlers who made the cut are Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Bishan Singh Bedi. The 12th man is Mohammad Azharuddin.
