The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday stated that it respected M S Dhoni's decision to retire from Test cricket, adding that the board will never forget the skipper's contribution to cricket.

"We are sad that Dhoni has decided to quit Test cricket suddenly, but certainly it [the decision] has been taken after a lot of introspection. Dhoni is a great cricketer and a great captain. The BCCI will never forget his contribution in team building," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel told ANI. "Only a lion hearted man can take such a decision, for me, it was emotional when he informed me about it. We respect his decision," he added.

On Tuesday, Indian skipper Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket in order to concentrate on the one day international (ODI) and T20 formats. The BCCI, in a statement, thanked Dhoni for his enormous contribution to Test cricket and the laurels that he had brought for India.
