London: West Bromwich Albion has recorded their first home win under manager Pepe Mel and took a significant step away from the Premier League relegation zone by beating West Ham United 1-0 at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The win nudges West Brom five points clear of the bottom three and, with just three games remaining, they are edging towards safety, which moves them to within a point of West Ham, with Sam Allardyce's side not out of danger yet.

According to the BBC, Saido Berahino's 10th-minute goal was against the run of play but the hosts dominated thereafter, with West Ham supporters protesting vocally their dissent against Allardyce mainly due to his chosen style of play.

The West Ham fans chanted their disgust at Allardyce's substitutions and some even displayed a banner demanding his sacking after a seventh defeat in nine matches, the report added.
