Having already dismissed two Australian batsman in the form of David Warner and night watchman Nathan Lyon on the evening of the fourth Day, the Indians kick-started the morning with the same pursuit of wickets on Monday.

After captain Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw built on a partnership of 36 runs, the Indians once again bounced back into the game, picking up both their wickets in quick succession. 

But what was to follow would not have been wished by India, as Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb put on a 100-run partnership, frustrating the Indian bowlers. Enduring a quiet start in the final session, the hosts also drained up both their reviews in pursuit of a desperate fifth wicket. 

As the match looks set to end in a draw, the fans in the JSCA Stadium had something to cheer for when their local boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen sipping tea on the giant screen. Garnering a loud cheer from the crowd, the former Indian captain responded by waving a hand to his fans. Surely, the inaugural Test match in Ranchi would have not been complete without him.
