Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin bag BCCI awards

Kohli becomes the first cricketer to receive the award thrice, after being the recipient for 2011-12 and 2014-15.

India captain Virat Kohli may have had a rare failure in the first Test in Pune last week with scores of 0 and 13. But, for the runs accumulated over the last year in the longer format, Kohli will receive the Polly Umrigar Award, for being India’s International Cricketer of the Year at the BCCI annual awards to be held in Bengaluru on March 8, the scheduled fifth day of the second Test against Australia.

Kohli becomes the first cricketer to receive the award thrice, after being the recipient for 2011-12 and 2014-15. His team-mate Ravichandran Ashwin will bag the Dilip Sardesai Award for his all-round show. Incidentally, Ashwin becomes the first to be bestowed with this award twice.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has been chosen as the State Association of the Season (2015-16) for winning the Ranji Trophy, the CK Nayudu Trophy and also the Women’s Plate League Group. They were runner-up in the Cooch Behar Trophy, the Vijay Merchant Trophy and the Women’s One-Day Elite Group.
