Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni rolled back the years with a vintage ton in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Sunday. Leading his state side Jharkhand against Chhattisgarh, he lit up the Eden Gardens with a flurry of fours and sixes.

Put in to bat after Chhattisgarh skipper Mohammad Kaif won the toss and decided to field, Jharkhand were in a serious spot of bother as their top five batsmen - comprising established names like Ishan Kishan, Virat Singh, Saurabh Tiwary and Ishank Jaggi - walked back to the pavilion without adding much to the scorecard.

Dhoni walked into bat at No.6 with his side in desperate need for some damage control. They were soon reduced to 57 for 6 with pacers Pankaj Singh and Abhuday Kant Singh wrecking havoc.

The keeper-batsman then combined with left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem to stitch together a much-needed partnership and bail his team out of trouble. And it didn't take long for Captain Cool to bring out his heavy artillery and tame his opponents.

Dhoni's knock of 129 off 107 balls was studded with 10 fours and 6 huge sixes. He was supported ably by Nadeem who ended up scoring a half-century himself.

It was yet another memorable rescue act by the legend, as Jharkhand finished at 243 for 9 at the end of their 50 overs.

On Saturday, Dhoni hit a couple of towering sixes in an impressive knock of 43 but once again failed as a finisher with Karnataka pipping Jharkhand by five runs in a group D league encounter.

More than 1000 people had turned up at the Eden Gardens, simply because Dhoni was playing. He did bat for a period but as luck would have it, Jharkhand were all-out for 261 in 49.5 overs after Karnataka scored 266 in 49.4 overs.
