India's top professional and amateur golfers will tee off at the Chief Minister's Meghalaya Open Golf tournament, which begins at Shillong on Wednesday.

About 109 professional golfers, including Shamim Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Shankar Das, Harendra Gupta, Om Prakash Chouhan, Khalin Joshi, Angad Cheema, Manav Jaini and Abhinav Lohan, will be vying for honours at the four-day event at the Shillong Golf Course.

With a prize purse of Rs 40 lakh, the tournament will witness performances of prominent foreign players like Sri Lankans, K Prabagaran and N Thangaraja, and Bangladeshi Mohd Zamal Hossain Mollah, Padamjit Sindhu of Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) said.

The Shillong Golf Course is home to one of the oldest golf courses in the country.

A confident Manav Jaini was excited in the pro-tour but admitted that the number of 'out-of-bounds' streams that criss-cross almost every fairway in the hilly area would prove the task more trying.

Amateur golfers from Meghalaya, Rahul Bajaj, Gaurav Bajaj, Anthony Hek and Jonathan Iawphniaw, will also be competing in the event.

In the professional category, Jit Bahadur Chettri, Johnwell Momin, Jeevan Sharma, Gautam Lama, Roshan Lama, Naeed Akhtar and Kitrbha Warjri, will represent the state at the event.

Asian Games gold medalist and Arjuna Awardee, Amit Luthra and junior world champion, Shubham Jaglan, were also present at the Golf Course on Tuesday.
