Test loss won't have any effect on series: Eoin Morgan

It was this aggressive approach that saw them enter the World T20 final last year and finish second best to the West Indies.

England may have been thrashed 0-4 in the recent Test series in India but they are a different unit altogether when it comes to white-ball cricket. After the premature exit in the 2015 World Cup, Eoin Morgan's side has gone on to play fearless cricket that has taken the cricketing world by surprise.

It was this aggressive approach that saw them enter the World T20 final last year and finish second best to the West Indies.

Though Morgan has nine players – Joe Root is yet to arrive in India as he had become father on Saturday and will be joining the team for the first ODI in Pune on January 15 – that suffered at the hands of Virat Kohli & Co in the Tests recently, the 30-year-old skipper will not face any challenge to motivate his team for the limited-overs.

"I think they are very motivated individually. As the tour has gone on regardless of which format has been played first, the side has generally improved as the tour has gone on. Since this squad has been together, there has been no backlash or repercussions from any performance earlier in the tour. I don't expect it to have any effect," Morgan said here on Monday.

Morgan believes that the results of the Tests will not have any bearing on the upcoming matches. For that matter, the Englishmen have taken their limited-overs game a few notches above since 2015 World Cup. Out of the 33 ODIs they have played since, they've won 19 and lost 11, with two ending in No Result and one Tied.

The Dublin-born left-handed batsman said: "In the last two years, there's always that nerves and anticipation about what's to come. The general mindset and attitude in which we went about our business was the right way, but the skill level didn't always deliver behind that. I've been surprised that the level of skill and consistency we've shown between now and then has impressed everybody within the group, and how well we've grown and learnt in that time has been accelerated with a small bit of success."

England could not have asked for better opponents for the two warm-up games, what with 10 of the 20 India players (combined ODIs and T20Is) being in action in them.

"It's great preparation, ideal to be honest. India is a tough place to come and adapt and perform at the skill level that is required to win a series here. That will be a good preparation leading into the series. Obviously, playing abroad is different challenge, a challenge which everybody is looking forward to. India is a great place to come and win the series. It means that much more because they are very, very good at home," Morgan said.

Morgan will lead against MS Dhoni's side in Tuesday's warm-up while he will be up against captain Virat Kohli in the limited-overs. On the change in India's captaincy in limited-overs, Morgan said: "MS (Dhoni) is obviously a very, very good captain. He has been for a long time. His leadership in 2011 was exceptional and his record speaks for itself. Until you're a captain, you don't know how things are going to go. Nobody knows. I think Virat has a little bit of an advantage that he's captain of the Test team now and is a very good player."

Plunkett to miss today's warm-up

Medium-pacer Liam Plunkett will miss England's first warm-up match on Tuesday due an injury (tight calf). Skipper Eoin Morgan said on Monday: "Liam Plunkett has an injury concern. He is coming along nicely. We knew about it when he was on the plane. He has been given a bit of time to get himself ready. He definitely won't play the first warm-up game. There is a chance he might play the second (on January 12)."
