In an attempt to aid disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka has raised over a million dollars in a blockbuster fund-raising tennis exhibition held in Zurich.

The Davis Cup champions raised US $1.3 million for the Roger Federer Foundation, which aids disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland.

Federer, who won the match 7-6(7/4), 6-4 against Wawrinka, said that the evening was a great experience for him as both were given a wonderful reception in the stadium, adding that it was more special as they were able to raise a large amount for the foundation, Sport24 reported.

The foundation, since its establishment, has raised around US $17 million for education programmes, and helped 285, 000 children in six countries in southern Africa and in Switzerland, the report added.
