Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge hopes the beginning of a "telepathic" understanding with Luis Suarez will make their partnership one of the most lethal in Premier League -history. Sturridge already has his sights on matching pairings that have entered English folklore such as Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke, or Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

Liverpool's trip to Manchester City tomorrow also offers an opportunity to offer the champions a reminder of what they missed when Sturridge walked out as a 19-year-old to join Chelsea in 2009. At the time, the club - then managed by Mark Hughes - felt his wage demands were excessive for a teenager.

Having stalled at Stamford Bridge, the move to Anfield offers a chance for the 23-year-old to start afresh, banishing the suggestions of materialism which have shadowed him at previous clubs. With three goals in five appearances, Sturridge is confident he is already proving his value.

"It's always a weight off your shoulders if you start quite well. It has been a good start. I'm hard on myself and I like to do a lot better than I am doing," he said. "There's a lot more to come from me. I've been performing OK but this is a fraction of what I'm actually able to do. Hopefully I'll be able to show what I'm really capable of doing in the months and years to come, when I'm playing week in, week out and I'm fully fit."

The partnership with Suarez has already shown signs of being prolific. "It's early days but the signs are that we're playing well together. I'm sure that will continue," he said. "As you play with someone more regularly, you do things telepathically, you know where they're going to be and you start playing off the cuff."

Raheem Sterling has been charged with assaulting a 27-year-old woman in an incident last November. Liverpool youth court yesterday (Friday) adjourned the case to Liverpool magistrates on Feb 22.
