In wake of Australian skipper Michael Clarke's injury, Steve Smith has been appointed as the new Australia Test captain for the remaining Test series against India.

Addressing the media, Smith said that it would be 'an amazing thrill' to take up the role as he previously had leadership experience in captaining older guys, adding that Brad Haddin would be 'right behind him'.

Congratulating Smith for the honour, National Selector Rod Marsh said that he would become Australia's 45th Test captain and at the age of 25 would become one of their youngest leaders, adding that he was 'highly regarded' not only for his fine performance but also for his 'maturity' and 'clear leadership potential'.
