Girls from St Augustine High School, Nerul, showed great determination and won the Mumbai division Subroto Cup by defeating St Andrews College, Bandra, in the final under-17 match. The score was 3-1 and all the goals were made by Reetika Sahani.
Four teams participated in the Mumbai division and St Augustine represented the Thane division and defeated St Andrews College, Mumbai suburb.
St Augustine girls began the summit clash with full confidence as they had won the district level Subroto Cup held at Fr Agnel School, Vashi.
The winners played at the state level meet in Yavatmal. The team made its presence felt there as well and defeated Amravati in the quarter-final. Now, the team will play against Latur in the semi-final scheduled on Friday.
The coach of the team. Hemant Zende, spoke to dna over phone from Yavatmal and said, “The team is currently in form and the girls are giving their best in all the matches.”
In the knock out of Mumbai division, St Augustine defeated Mumbai city which was represented by Cathedral and John Connon School, Malabar Hills by 3-0 and the top scorer again was Sahani who made two goals.
