Sri Lankan women cricketers claim selectors demanded 'sexual favours' for spot on team

A sex scandal has rocked Sri Lankan cricket after its women players allegedly complained of demands of being 'satisfied' by the selectors if they wanted a spot on the team, latest media reports say.

These reports surfaced amidst glaring allegations by the players against the team management and national selectors of the Sri Lankan women's cricket team that they need to be sexually pleased in order to be able to book a spot in the national team and keep their places.

The national cricket body of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided on Tuesday to probe the serious charges levelled against the team management as well as the national selectors of the women’s cricket team. After the news broke out, SLC launched an immediate inquiry into the matter.

Sanath Jayasuriya, chief selector of Sri Lankan men’s national team, SLC vice-president Mohan de Silva, SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga and assistant secretary Hirantha Perera have been asked to look into the matter.

Reports suggest that the four-man panel will conduct an inquiry into these allegations on Thursday and is likely to ask the Sri Lanka’s women’s team management and players to furnish evidence.

According to reports by by the local media (News1st ) in Sri Lanka, no official complaint - written or verbal - was lodged with the SLC on this matter. Mohan de Silva added that the head coach of the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team, its manager and the selection committee will be called in for Friday’s meeting.
