TV actor Raza Murad has taken a bite on sports persons saying that they should rather be grateful to the film industry than criticising it's decisions.

The decision to appoint Salman Khan as the goodwill ambassador of the 2016 Rio Olympics for the Indian contingent, did not go so well with section of sports persons in India.

The likes of Milkha Singh, Yogeshwar Dutt and Gautam Gambhir among others have slammed the decision to appoint Salman Khan as the goodwill ambassador rather than appointing an eminent sports personality.

Flying Sikh Milkha Singh was the first to strike a discordant tone on appointment of  Salman Khan.

"I am of the view that our sports persons; be those from shooting, athletics, volleyball or other sports, they are the real ambassadors of India who would represent the country in the Olympics. Still, if we had to pick an ambassador, it could have been from the sporting arena," said Milkha Singh while clarifying he has no personal agenda against Salman.

However, this statement wasn't taken so well by Salman's father Salim Khan, who tweeted it was the Indian film Industry that resurrected the 85-year old's fading fame.

Discarded India left-handed opener and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir too voiced his opinions by saying that Abhinav Bindra should have been the ambassador.

Even though sports persons like Dipa Karmakar and Mairaj Ahmad are making Indians proud in the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics, such controversies continue to mar the Indian contingent.

Indian Olympic Association Vice-President Tarlochan Singh has defended the decision to appoint Salman Khan as the goodwill ambassador for India at the 2016 Olympics.

Speaking to ANI, Singh said, "When celebrities who appeal to public come forward to help naturally we get more publicity which is good for sports".

He added that Salman Khan is not being paid a penny for his services as the goodwill ambassador.
