Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal aims Australian Open glory post recovery from surgery

World number three Rafael Nadal has revealed that his Australian Open preparations are on course following his recovery from appendix surgery.

The 14-times grand slam champion said that his operation was successful and that he was able to practice for long hours at high intensity, adding that it was 'important' for him after five months of enduring pain, Stuff.co.nz reported. Nadal had an injury-plagued 2014 and was struck down by appendicitis in October.

The 2009 Australian Open champion will contest in the two-lead up tournament in the Middle East before the season opener in Australia, as part of his preparations.

Nadal maintains the 'level of intensity and competition' would be helpful for him and he would try to spend as much time on court as possible.
