India's limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain of Rising Pune Supergiants, owned by Sanjiv Goenka, for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League here today. Unveiling the team logo and captain, team owner Sanjiv Goenka said: "I welcome Dhoni as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2016 season. "He has always been a phenomenal leader for teams that he has represented including the Indian side.
His track record in both domestic and International arenas have been remarkable. I firmly believe he will lead our team extremely well on and off the field." Asked why Dhoni was named captain only for one season, he said: "Right now the focus is only on 2016 and the team building. That's why we named Dhoni as the captain."
Dhoni will lead a star-studded side that will have Aussie skipper Steve Smith, South African skipper Faf du Plessis beside the Indian experienced duo of Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin, but Goenka said too many leaders won't call for a "friction".
However, the team's name Rising Pune Supergiants, led to lots of jokes on social media:

Rising Pune Supergiants sounds far less like an IPL team and far more like an ad agency describing a Shivaji statue.
