Amitabh Bachchan's soulful rendition of the national anthem before the Indo- Pak match gave goosebumps to all Indians on Saturday and set the perfect mood for a high voltage match as it tugged at the core of our heart. But after that, a report went viral on social media claiming Amitabh Bachchan took Rs 4 crores to be present and sing the national anthem. While it is not a crime for an actor to charge appearance fee, many fans were aghast and wondered if patriotism was also an 'act'.

Now all such rumours can be laid to rest as CAB President Sourav Ganguly went on the record to say that Big B didn't take a dime to sing the national anthem at Eden Gardens. Anandabazar Patrika quoted him saying,"Mr Bachchan is one and only, a special person. I am eternally grateful to him" He further said, "Can you ever imagine someone paying Rs 30 lakhs of his own pocket to perform? He booked his own flight, bought his own tickets and even paid the hotel bills. I literally begged him to take some money but he said that I am doing it for love and there is no question of money being involved".

Bachchan also surprised CAB with his enthusiasm when he insisted on a rehearsal even when the weather condition was far from perfect. He was a picture of concentration speaking very less before the event, focusing on the song he had to deliver. And with his majestic baritone, he indeed delivered what he intended to. Take a bow Shahenshah!
