Himanshu Thakur finished 72nd out of the 72 athletes who set a time in the men's giant slalom at the Sochi Winter Olympics here Wednesday, ending India's challenge in the mega event.

Thakur managed a time of 3 minutes and 37.55 seconds in the two runs, 52.26 seconds behind the winner Ted Ligety (2:45.29) of the US.

Steve Missillier of France was 0.48 seconds behind for the silver and his compatriot Alexis Pinturault took bronze with a time that was a further 0.16 seconds slower.

Earlier in the Games, Shiva Keshavan had come 37th in the men's luge while Nadeem Iqbal was 85th out of 87 participants in the 15km classic run.

India also saw its 14-month Olympic suspension being revoked during the Games.
