19-year-old opener Smriti Mandhana scored her maiden ODI century, and captain Mithali Raj struck 58 to take India to a challenging 252/8 against Australia in the 2nd Women's ODI at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday.

Winning the toss, skipper Raj chose to bat first on a decent strip. However, all rounder Ellyse Perry had opener Kamini caught off the very first ball of the innings.

Mandhana and Raj then put up a huge partnership, scoring 150 runs before Mithali Raj became Perry's second victim, having scored 58 off 98 balls.

Mandhana reached her century off the bowling of Farrell with a couple in the 39th over. However she was then bowled by Megan Schutt in the 40th over. Mandhana hit eleven boundaries in her 109-ball 102.

After the fall of Mandhana's wicket, the Aussies captured a few quick wickets, as Harmanpreet Kaur, Krishnamurthy and Jhulan Goswami fell quickly to leave India at 212/7 in the 46th over. However, Shikha Pandey (33 not out) and Ekta Bisht (14 off 9 balls) ensured India women finished at 252/8.

For the Aussies, Ellyse Perry took 3/54, while Schutt finished with 2/35.

India women had lost the first ODI in Canberra by a whooping 101 runs, failing to chase down Australia's 276.
