All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has reportedly been assigned to captain Bangladesh team in the opening one-day international of their three-match series against Pakistan due to the absence of skipper Mashrafe Mortaza.

Fast bowler Mortaza was handed a one-match ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to slow over rate in their World Cup quarter-final against India last month, and will lead his side in the next two ODIs and the subsequent T20 match.

Shakib, who is currently training with IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said that he has the Pakistan tour on his mind, adding that he would play only two matches in the IPL and the confidence would come in handy during their series against Pakistan if he performs well in the first two matches, the Dawn reported.

KKR will begin their title defence from April 8, and Shakib believes that his absence wouldn't be a problem for the team as their bench strength is very strong and got depth in their side.

Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh will commence with the first of three ODIs on April 17 followed by a Twenty20 International on April 24 and a two-Test series beginning on April 28.
