London: Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel is of the opinion that his team can close the gap on their rivals Mercedes this season following an improved display by the reigning world champions at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Vettel, who finished at a hard-fourth place with his teammate Daniel Ricciardo finishing in at third, said that Red Bull is here to fight for the championship, adding that they are hoping to catch up with Mercedes on time and give them a run for their money.

According to BBC, Vettel had started 15th on the grid after receiving a five-place penalty because of a gearbox change, but cut through the field to claim his second highest-finish of the season.

The four time consecutive Formula One world champion said that he enjoyed the Spanish Grand Prix and third and forth is the best that his team could manage.

Vettel added that Mercedes is very strong, have a phenomenal engine, a very good car and have also got two very good drivers.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton finished at the first place in the Spanish Grand Prix, making it his fourth consecutive win, followed by his teammate Nico Rosberg at second, the report added.
