Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis win US Open women's doubles title

Sania Mirza scripted history on Sunday by clinching her second Grand Slam of the year after she won the women's doubles US Open title with Swiss partner Martina Hingis in New York. 

The Mirza Hingis pair defeated Casey Dellacqua of Australia and Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3.

This is Sania's 2nd Grand Slam title with Martina Hingis.

On Wednesday, Mirza and Hingis saw off the challenge of Taipei girls Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan 7-6(5) 6-1.

Hingis had also won the mixed doubles title with Leander Paes on Saturday. The fourth seeded Indo-Swiss pair, edged past unseeded Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4 3-6 10-7 in a tricky final to win their third Major title together this season.

In April, Sania became the first Indian to be ranked world No 1 in WTA's doubles rankings and then in July she won her first women's doubles Grand Slam.

Both Sania and Hingis praised each other's abilities during the award ceremony. Sania said, "It has been a great year for us. We are a solid team. We are very happy to come back and win the US Open." 

In response, Hingis praised Sania for her style of play.

"I don't have to worry about baseline. Sania has the best forehand in the world," replied Hingis.
