Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis have reached the finals of the Italian Open and are eyeing the trophy after a straight set win against Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu.
The top-ranked Indo-Romanian pair outclassed the duo with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the thrilling quarter-final contest that lasted for one hour and six minutes. Sania and Hingis, the Australian Open champions, are eyeing their 14th women's doubles title together.
Since their 41-match winning streak ended in Doha, the Indo-Romanian pair has stumbled in their recent tournaments, going down in the Madrid Masters and Stuttgart Open finals, while making a second-round exit at the Miami Masters as well as at the Indian Wells.
Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergia lost their chance of booking a spot in the finals of Italian Open after losing against eight seeds Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock by 6(4)-7 and 6(2)-7.
