In what may be counted as a lop-sided final, Indian women thrashed Nepal 6-0, in the SAFF Women's Championship final, at Islamabad on Friday, and captured the third edition of the prestigious tournament.

Nepal stood no chance against a strong Indian side, which had Ngangom Bala Devi pumping in four goals, and putting in a virtuoso performance.

The tournament can be counted as a beacon of hope in troubled Pakistan, and the fervent crowd that turned up to cheer both sides, was reminder of the fact that other sports apart from cricket are still alive and kicking in the country.

The match also marked the end of the career of India captain, Oinam Bembem, who was elated to have been part of a terrific side, which has punched above their weight in Asia.

Pakistan were eliminated in the first hurdle itself, despite a fighting performance, and the tournament marks the rise of women's sport in the country, after a long imposed hiatus by former Islamic rulers.
