Eden Gardens is one of Sachin Tendulkar’s favourite grounds. It will be the venue of the great man’s penultimate game — 199th Test — of his glorious career. The maestro will bid adieu to his 24-year-long career at his home ground, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Although Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) wanted to host Tendulkar’s last Test, they had to settle for his second last match. They are still happy that Eden Gardens will be one of the venues where the batting maestro will descend one last time.

The Kolkatans will go all out to celebrate Tendulkar’s farewell journey and for that they won’t leave any stone unturned. They may not have decided what will they do but they have promised it will be something special which will never be forgotten.

If Sourav Ganguly is their most favourite son, Tendulkar is as popular as the ‘Prince of Kolkata’.

So, expect the whole of Kolkata to stop when the legendary batsman is on the field.

“He is as big as Sourav in Kolkata. It is one of Sachin’s favourite grounds and it is here he has scored most runs after Bangalore and Chennai. He bought the city to a standstill whenever he batted,” said a Kolkatan fan of Tendulkar.

Meanwhile, CAB said they will go all out to make it a special for Tendulkar’s 200th and final Test.

“We were busy with Durga Puja and Eid. Once these festivals are over, we will start preparing for the big game. People have seen what we have done for Sachin in the past. We have a huge portrait of Sachin at the entrance of our clubhouse. Then, we gifted him 100 gold coins for reaching 100 international 100s at a felicitation ceremony where the CM was present. We are planning something as big,” said CAB treasurer Biswarup Dey.

Dey said CAB is proud to host the 199th Test. “We had planned to invite his family members including his mom. There are a lot of emotions involved since we will have 70,000 people watching him and saying good bye. It was only fitting to play his last Test here. However, we are proud to host his penultimate Test,” he added.

CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya, too, expressed his happiness. “I really appreciate the board’s decision as it is obviously Tendulkar’s wish to play at home. At the same time, it would be a great opportunity to host the 199th Test here,” Dalmiya said.
