New Scotland coach Gregor Townsend has named three uncapped players in a 34-man squad for next month's three-test summer tour.

Glasgow centre Nick Grigg, prop D'Arcy Rae and Edinburgh hooker George Turner are the new faces in the squad that will face Italy in Singapore on June 10 before tests in Australia (June 17) and Fiji (June 24).

Townsend, who will be on his first tour with the national side since taking charge last August, recalled Glasgow wing Lee Jones, Harlequins utility back Ruaridh Jackson and Edinburgh scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne who steps into the squad for Greig Laidlaw, recently picked up for the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.

The Scots will also be without full back Stuart Hogg and winger Tommy Seymour who are also a part of Warren Gatland's Lions squad.

"This tour is all about learning and competing," Townsend said in a statement. "As a coaching group we will be learning more about our players and how they perform in a different environment against three sides with contrasting styles of play."

"We're going to have three weeks' preparation in Scotland before we head overseas, which will enable us to implement the key components of how we will play."
