World number three golfer Rory McIlroy produced a sensational finish to end a six-month winless drought by lifting the Irish Open at the K Club.

The 27-year-old Northern Irishman birdied the par-five 16th before he eagled 18th hole to win the tournament by three strokes with a 12-under par total, Sport24 reported.

This was McIlroy's first win as a professional in his homeland and was also the first victory since capturing last November's European Tour season-ending World Tour
Championship in Dubai.
