For the sixth year in row, Cristiano Ronaldo scores over 50 goals for Real Madrid

After scoring 51 goals in this La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to have scored 50 or more goals consecutively for six seasons. 

The Portugal who scored twice against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, scored 61 goals in 2014-15, 51 goals in 2013-14, 55 goals in 2012-13, 60 goals in 2011-2012 and 54 goals in 2010-1011. This season, Ronaldo has so far scored 35 goals in La Liga and 16 in Europe. He has another match this season - Champions League final against Atletico Madrid - to up his goal tally.

Lionel Messi, on the other hand, has scored 37 goals this season - 26 in La Liga, 6 in Champions League and 5 in Copa Del Rey. Ronaldo scored six hat-tricks so far, twice as that of Messi who scored three. Messi has scored over 49 goals in only three consecutive years - between 2010 to 2013. 

But Ronaldo's competition this season has been Messi's teammate Luis Suarez who is currently the lead scorer. He has scored a total of 53 goals - 40 in La Liga, 8 in Champions League and 5 in Copa Del Rey. Suarez's hat-trick on Saturday against Granada won Barcelona the La Liga title.

Ronaldo has missed a couple of matches this season due to injuries and has made 47 appearances in total. Coach Zinedine Zidane had also expressed doubt on whether he would be in the squad against Manchester City in the semi-finals but the Real Madrid star did play the match. Despite Ronaldo's number of goals, Real Madrid lost on the La Liga title by one point as Barcelona won the game against Granada by 3-0 on Saturday.
