Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo was declared FA's 2015-16 Best Player in Europe on Thursday ahead of team-mate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.
But the Portugal star believes, according to goal.com, that there was someone else who deserved the award more than him - his neighbour and club opponent Griezmann. "He lost two finals so it was unlucky for him but I think he's a fantastic player, he's a good boy, he's my neighbour - he lives next to me - and he deserved it, said Ronaldo, adding, "But he will win for sure one day - I hope so."
Ronaldo has so far faced Griezmann twice in club finals - in Champions League 2016 and back in 2014. Ronaldo even played against him in Euro 2016 final between Portugal and France. The three-time Ballon d'Or winner won all three finals.
Thanking his team for all their support, he said that they helped him a lot to get these trophies. He further termed his last season as his most successful collective year, owing to the number of trophies he earned this year.
He also said during the interview that he was happy Sporting was playing in the same group. "It's going to be special," he said. "It's the club that I started to play football and will be a very emotional moment when I'm gonna play against them."
Ronaldo scored 51 goals in 48 games in all competitions for Real who won the Champions League and finished runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga.
