The Indian Davis Cup Team has always punched above its weight in the past. But with veteran tennis players slowly bowing out, the team is going through a generational change. The new crop of players, however, will get a great chance to learn top level tennis from Tony Roche, a man who has coached legends like Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl

From December 1 to 8, top Indian singles and doubles players will come to Kolkata and train under Roche. According to a leading Bengali daily, they will train in ex-tennis player Jaydeep Mukherjee's Tennis Academy. Mukherjee is currently present in Bangalore, where the India-Serbia Davis Cup tie is taking place. According to him, the whole Davis Cup team will fly down to Kolkata for lessons from the master coach. Some local talented players will also get a chance to train alongside  Indian stars.

Interestingly, Mukherjee is bearing the entire cost of the training programme himself, though players like Somdev Devvarman have also promised to chip in with money. Leander Paes, Vishnu Vardhan, Yuki Bhambri, Somdev and all the other players in the current team will take part in the training.

Roche made his mark in the tennis world first as a player and later as a coach. In singles, he won the French Open along with 13 grand slams in doubles. Later, he trained many top players like Federer, Lendl, Pat Rafter and Jelena Dokic, among others.
