RIP: WWE legend Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka passes away at 73

The WWE legend was suffering from several ailments including dementia.

WWE legend and Hall of Fame star Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka passed away recently at his son-in-law’s home in Florida. The WWE put out an official statement on its website saying: “Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle. His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds of flash bulbs went off will forever live as one of the most memorable moments in WWE history. WWE extends its condolences to Snuka’s family, friends and fans.”

The Fijian-born former wrestler was earlier in a hospice for several ailments including dementia but the exact cause of death is not known.  His daughter Tamina Snuka, also a WWE star, tweeted "I love you dad" with a picture of the two.

The Rock also tweeted: “Our family @TaminaSnuka asked me to share the sad news that her dad Jimmy Snuka has just passed away. Alofa atu i le aiga atoa. #RIPSuperfly.”  WWE legend Hulk Hogan wrote: “RIP Superfly. Only love HH” Two weeks earlier, homicide charged were dropped against Snuka relating to the death of his girlfriend in 1983 and the judge ruled that he was mentally incompetent to stand trial.
