That being a reason to celebrate, it must be remembered that the battle is not won yet. The final is scheduled for Sunday.

Here are some of the gymnasts that Dipa would have to surpass to bring home the gold medal.

1. Giulia Steingruber (Switzerland)

Besides bagging the victory at the 2015 European all-around, Giulia Steingruber also won the senior floor exercise and vault titles at the European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Switzerland.

8. Dipa Karmakar (India)

The very first Indian female gymnast to compete in the Olympics and the first India to do so in the past 52 years, Dipa Karmakar, has already won the heart of her country. But she has to defeat the 7 other gymnasts to win gold in Olympics, this time. She has also won the bronze in 2014 Commonwealth Games and has successfully done "Produnova" or the much-feared Death Vault. She has also won bronze at Asian Gymnastics Championships and finished fifth at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
