It is a big day for India as 10th ranked PV Sindhu will be playing women's badminton final on Friday, creating history as she becomes the first Indian woman badminton player to win a Gold or Silver medal in the Olympic games. One step away from gold, the Hyderabad girl will now face top seed Carolina Marin of Spain who is a two-time World champion.

Marin reached Rio 2016 women badminton final by defeating defending Olympic champion Li Xuerui from China by 21-14, 21-16. Here are important points you must know about Marin before watching the final against India's Sindhu:

1. Marin is currently World Number one in badminton Women's singles.

2. This is Marin's first Olympic final, just like Sindhu.

3. Having crushed the Chinese dominance in the game, Marin has clinched the last two World Championships.

4. She is called the 'Girl Nadal' in Spain.

5.  Marin's career high point was in 2015 when she won the BWF World Championships after defeating Saina Nehwal 21–16, 21–19 in the final.  

6. Marin became the first Spaniard to win gold BWF World Championships in 2014. She also clinched the European Championships title in the same year.

Despite being the top seed player, she is expected to have a tough fight on Friday against Sindhu who has outshone herself in this Olympic season. The two have faced each other seven times before, out of which the Spaniard has won four matches while Sidhu won thrice. Here are the seven matches that took place between the two till now -
