Ranchi Rhinos would hope for a much improved performance after their loss to the Uttar Pradesh Wizards when they take on leaders Delhi Wave Riders in their second home game of the Hockey India League in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Rhinos started the league with a bang, winning the first two matches but slumped to a 2-0 loss in their last game in Lucknow to slip to third place. “We produced a disappointing game in our last match. The boys know it and we’re looking for a better performance against Delhi, who are a very strong side,” Rhinos coach Gregg Clark told this paper.

Clark said he was impressed with the performances of Manpreet Singh (two goals), Vikas Choudhary (one goal) Birendra Lakra so far this season, and added that the Indian talent is Rhinos’ strong point. “Our local players are doing a great job. We’ve got a talented bunch of Indians and they’re showing their worth. I’m sure they’ll step up to the challenge against Delhi,” added the South African.

Clark said the team is happy being back at home. The stadium was packed during their first game against the Mumbai Magicians, and it is expected to create the same amount of noise on Wednesday. “The crowd out here is fantastic and it is one of our strong points, along with the team camaraderie. We will rely on it for tomorrow’s match as well,” Clark said.

The Delhi Wave Riders, on the other hand, scored heavily in their last game against the Magicians and would be looking to extend their lead at the top. The only concern for the visitors would be their lack of penalty corner conversion.

Result: Jaypee Punjab Warriors 2 (S Singh 12, M Singh 28)  drew with Uttar Pradesh Wizards 2 (V Raghunath 24, 35)
