Sharad Pawar is all set to be elected unopposed as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president when it goes to the polls on Friday.
This development follows the rejection of BJP leader Gopinath Munde’s appeal against the rejection of his application to contest for the top post on Thursday.
Pawar has the support of all the three panels in the fray – the Bal Mahaddalkar panel headed by outgoing MCA chief Ravi Savant, Cricket First led by Vijay Patil and the Ratnakar Shetty panel.
Lalchand Rajput, a Cricket First panel member contesting for one of the 11 managing committee posts, said on Thursday: “We like-minded people, a mixture of Test and first-class cricketers, and administrators, have come together. There are a lot of areas in which we can make a difference.”
