Bengal got much needed victory against Odisha in Kalyani near Kolkata to stay in contention for a semi-final berth in Ranji Trophy.

The writing was there on the wall from day one itself when 20 wickets fell during the Bengal versus Odisha Ranji match, and it didn't take much time for the remaining 20 batsmen to depart as Bengal won the match by 133 runs, bundling out Odisha for a mere 37 runs in their second innings on Tuesday

The pitch at the Bengal Cricket Academy which will surely be the much talked about topic for the upcoming days, started to show it's unpredictable nature on Day 2 with as many as five batters returning to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. However, unlike Monday, when the spinners dictated terms, this time around the pacers had their day in the sun. Basant Mohanty wrecked havoc with a fifer and he was ably complimented by Dhiraj Singh (2/47).

Bengal's first innings' star Abhimanyu Easwaran again led his team with the willow scoring 39 off 85 balls while Sudip Chatterjee (37 off 92 balls)  and Manoj Tiwary (35 off 72 balls) took the score beyond the 100-run mark. However, as soon as Chatterjee got out, there was a procession and Bengal were skittled out for 135.

Chasing 171 for victory, Odisha were all out even before their batsmen could get themselves in. Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda (7-19) ripped out the heart of the visitors' batting order and Odisha born spinner Pragyan Ojha (3-14) struck the finals nails in the coffin as the hosts got full points from the match and took a giant step towards the next round. The destruction caused by the Bengal bowlers can be gauged from the fact that none of the Odisha batsmen failed to get to double figures in the second innings.
