Former Pakistan hockey skipper Tahir Zaman said on Thursday that the Hockey India League (HIL) would have been more exciting and colourful had players from his country been included.
“It would have been more exciting for the spectators if Pakistani players were included because they would have got to see many skilful players. I would request Hockey India to include Pakistani players in HIL (in future). They would add colour to the tournament,” said Zaman.
There was a time when India and Pakistan were the dominant force of world hockey. Shahbaz Ahmad’s skills were second to none. But that was a long time ago. Hockey in the sub-continent has gone down hill since the turn of the century. “In Europe, they initially played hockey just for fun.
It took years for them to analyse the way the Indians and Pakistanis played. They studied it well and were successful in implicating the same,” he said.
