Family of deceased South African model Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead by Paralympics runner Oscar Pistorius, has expressed its disappointment at the granting of additional prison privileges to the athlete.

Pistorius' prisoner status has reportedly been raised to category A from category B, which would allow him to hug and kiss visitors, own a radio and wear jewellery.

Reflecting on Oscar's newly added privileges, Reeva's uncle Mike Steenkamp said that the correctional services department had a short memory (about what Pistorius did), Sport24 reported.

Pistorius, who is serving a five-year jail sentence for killing his girlfriend, was acquitted of murder charges and was found guilty of culpable homicide.

Earlier, a South African court has ruled that prosecutors can appeal Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius' murder conviction charges but has dismissed the State's bid to appeal the double amputee's sentencing.
