Former Indian captain and current Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly was seen in action in a cricket match after a long time, but that's not the real big news. The maverick left-hander turned out for an exhibition game organised by TMC in the Liluah constituency where Vaishali Dalmiya (late CAB President Jagmohan Dalmiya's daughter) is a candidate, reported Anandabazar Patrika.

The game which was supposed to be played between a group of Bengal cricketers and Tollywood stars, had only Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary and actor Jishu Sengupta as the notable personalities. Ganguly managed to score only seven runs in the tennis ball game. However thanks to Tiwary's match-winning 57 runs, Ganguly's team defeated the Tollywood outfit by successfully chasing down 82 runs by losing just two wickets.

Ganguly then voiced his support for childhood friend Vaishali, "I have all the best wishes for Vaishali as a human being. I have known her since my childhood days and I am glad to be a part of this match. It's great to play cricket after such a long time."

The opposition parties didn't take this initiative of indirectly including Ganguly in the TMC campaign in the right manner as they thought that the former cricketers image would be hurt by this. However Vaishali clarified, "This has nothing to do election campaigning.  There was pressure on me to bring him onboard and I just acted as a bridge. But this is just a matter of a game which has no connection with politics."

However, it doesn't require any rocket science to understand that this is a well thought out plan of the TMC party to beef up their campaign by involving the name of the iconic Indian cricketer.

Dada just a couple of days back reacted curtly when his name featured in a promotional leaflet supporting TMC leader Partha Chatterjee. But by batting for Vaishali, he has indirectly made his foray in the political pitch.
