The two were on the same stage on Thursday evening at the launch of Sachin Tendulkar's personal app '100MB that will bring him closer to his countless fans through his posts, opinion, videos.
The mutual respect and admiration had to be seen and heard to be believed. Singer Sonu Nigam called Sachin Tendulkar as being "blessed with something divine" while the legendary cricketer said sharing the same microphone with the playback singer "has been a special experience" and that he "worships music".
The two were on the same stage on Thursday evening at the launch of Sachin Tendulkar's personal app '100MB that will bring him closer to his countless fans through his posts, opinion, videos.
Nigam and Tendulkar not just shared the stage, but even shared the microphone together when Tendulkar debuted for a video album for his app that goes like, "Naacho naacho naacho sari cricketwali beat pe".
"This is a one-off," Tendulkar quips. "It was my wife's (Anjali) idea that I should sing. She was the only one who believed I could sing. I always had passion for music. That helped."
Tendulkar admitted that he did not have to practice much to record the song, in which he also thanks all the cricketers who have been his India teammates through the 24-year journey that culminated in November 2013.
"I did not practice much. It was just then and there that I sang," Tendulkar tells this correspondent. "I heard the tune. I quite liked it. After that, I was asked to practice a little bit, which I did in the studio. Before that, I had not practiced much. It helped as I was used to listening to music and humming songs."
Not only will Tendulkar be interacting with his fans but also helping them with their cricket coaching through his app.
"I like spending time with the youngsters," Tendulkar says. "Though I don't hold any official post, that doesn't stop me from interacting with youngsters and their cricket. I have done it in the past like passing on tips to the Mumbai sides, under-17, girls' team, Ranji Trophy sides and even some of the India players. I have always enjoyed doing that. It will be a pleasure to help youngsters."
Being the shy person that Tendulkar is, he has now opened up to the social media post his retirement. He constantly tweets what he feels, and not just about cricket.
"Last year, I was driving during monsoon and I saw Mumbai police working hard, controlling the traffic in spite of the rains. I wanted to record this and post it," recalls Tendulkar about tweeting things spontaneously. He told his manager to record the policemen doing their work in rain and shared it to his millions of fans on Twitter.
Tendulkar posts his own tweets, he assures DNA. "Like the last tweet on the India win. I tweeted 'India, India' and with three claps icons and then again 'India, India'. Because, that is what I heard the fans shout," Tendulkar reveals.
The 43-year-old legendary batsman with 100 international hundreds and 200 Test appearances said he was looking forward to interacting with his fans even closer. "During my 24-year career, I met a lot of people. Also, I could not meet a lot of other people. When I returned from tours, there would be thousands of letters at home. It was difficult to go through them individually. But what I have always valued is the support and love of my fans.
Now, through this app, my fans will see a different side of me, more engaging, more involving with them," Tendulkar says.
