Not a dream anymore: Leicester City thrash Manchester City 3-1 at Eithad to become title favourites

Claudio Raineri’s unfancied team have not only defied the odds, but made all of us believe that dreams can come real. Not only did Leicester beat their much-fancied opponents, they thrashed them 3-1 as Ruth scored twice, Mahrez once while Kasper Schmeichel seemed to channel his famous father as he kept City’s attacks at bay.

If Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s incoming manager is watching in Germany, he will probably wonder, exactly what sort of madness prevails in the country he is going to manage in next.  If anyone had predicted before the season started that Leicester City v/s Manchester City would be the defining game of the season, you’d been deemed more delusional than a Congress supporter who believes Rahul Gandhi holds the keys to reviving the party.

But throughout the season, Claudio Raineri’s unfancied team have not only defied the odds, but made all of us believe that dreams can come real.  Not only did Leicester beat their much-fancied opponents, they thrashed them 3-1 as Ruth scored twice, Mahrez once while Kasper Schmeichel seemed to channel his famous father as he kept City’s attacks at bay.  While Vardy missed the mark, Leicester did more than enough to open a six-point lead at the top of the table and keep the world wondering how they’re doing it.

Before the match, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who knows a thing or two about watching others win the league from a distance, argued that Leicester City deserve more respect than they’ve been given.

He had written or the Daily Mail: “What do you look for from the Premier League champions? The first thing you expect them to have is one of the leading scorers in the division, a man who has made the difference in the big moments. Next you would anticipate them having the best player in the country, someone whose performances have lit up the campaign and inspired those around him.”

“After that, you would assume they would have the fewest losses and win the games that matter. Leicester City tick every single one of those boxes. So why are they not being taken seriously still? How come opposition fans are thinking 'It's only Leicester', as if to imply they should be beating them easily? They wouldn't be that way before a game against Manchester City or Arsenal, so why be like that before facing the league leaders?"

Well, the dream continues as Leicester City thrashed Manchester City. It took them barely 3 minutes to get started as Mahrez whipped in a low cross to the near post which Huth bundled home after some rather poor marking from City who look clueless without Kompany.

For the first 20 minutes, Leicester played like champion elects and in the 53rd minute added their second after Kante won the ball in midfield and found Mahrez who lashed in into the top left! Leicester wrapped it up at the hour mark with another header as Demichelis did his best statue-impression and added new meaning to the term ‘stationery’.

Sergio Aguero, probably the only City player to wear the shirt with honour, finally earned a consolation goal for Man City but it was too little, too late. As far as the dream goes, Leicester City are on course to live the dream.
