Not a single Mumbai player has made it to the India U-19 squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka and England that was announced on Monday. The tri-series will be played from December 2 to 21 in the island nation.

This was the second time that no Mumbai player was deemed good enough to be part of the squad coached by Rahul Dravid. The tri-series between India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, which India won on Sunday, also had no Mumbai boy.

These tournaments are part of the preparation for the ICC U-19 World Cup slated to take place in Bangladesh next year. It is likely that the same set of players that have been selected for the tri-series will board the flight for the mega event.

Mumbai U-19 coach Vinod Raghavan was surprised that none of his players could make the cut.

"We had players who deserved to be there, like Armaan Jaffer, Adeeb Usmani, Shams Mulani and Aditya Shinde. Armaan has been very consistent and has been one of the top run-getters in the Cooch Behar U-19 trophy. He has got two double tons, a hundred and a half-century. Usmani, too, has got runs and Mulani has performed well as an all-rounder," Raghavan said.

In the last edition of the U-19 World Cup, four Mumbai players including batsmen Shreyas Iyer, Akhil Herwadkar, Sarfaraz Khan and fast bowler Atul Singh made it to the probables and were part of pre-World Cup tournaments.

This time, Mumbai-born Sarfaraz is part of the squad, but the 18-year-old has shifted base to Uttar Pradesh and is now considered a Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) player.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is concerned about the situation.

"We have discussed this issue in the last managing committee meeting. It is a serious concern and we are going to find out what it is," an MCA functionary said on condition of anonymity.

Not just Mumbai, no West Zone player has found his name in the squad either.

"It is a cause of concern for Mumbai," Raghavan said. "Sidak Singh, who is a left-arm spinner, has been among wickets and could have made it. Unfortunately, he has been reported for suspect action. Armaan is definitely unlucky to miss out."

India U-19 squad: Ricky Bhui (C), Rishabh Pant, Yogesh Sharma, Kanishk Seth, Amandeep Khare, Mayank Dagar, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Virat Binod Singh, Rahul Batham, Anmolpreet Singh, Mahipal Lomror, Syed Khaleel Ahmed, Washington Sundar, Sarfaraz Khan, Zeeshan Ansari, Shubham Mavi, Himanshu Rana
