Neymar is the new captain of Brazilian football team

Prolific Brazil striker Neymar, has been named as Brazil’s new captain for the upcoming friendlies against Columbia and Ecuador. In the absence of Thiago Silva, the new Brazilian coach Dunga has decided to give the coveted post to mercurial 22-year-old Barcelona forward Neymar whose world cup campaign was cut abruptly short following an injury.

Dunga heaped praise on his young captain in press interactions. Dunga said, “He’s a player with a lot of quality, despite his age is experienced. The captain has to set the standard for the others.”

The 1994 World Cup winning captain went on to say that Neymar has responded well to the added responsibilities after he was orally briefed about the matter.Brazil is still smarting from the embarrassing Semi-final loss to Germany. Under Neymar it is looking to start afresh.  Neymar has recovered from a back injury that ruled him out of the semi-final.

Dunga said that, “Every time Brazil won a World Cup it did so with leaders who had great personality … we need more players with this characteristic in the group, whether they wear the armband or not.”

Neymar has already scored 35 goals for Brazil in 54 appearances. All eyes will be on Neymar to see if he can inspire Brazil team to new glories.
