India's talismanic off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is a man who's much in demand. After guiding India to multiple victories in the current Test season at home, the Tamil Nadu man has been summoned to put on the whites for his state side as well.

Tamil Nadu take on Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal in Visakhapatnam starting on Thursday, and Ashwin, along with Murali Vijay, has been asked to play in the crunch encounter by former BCCI president, N Srinivasan, who heads the state unit. 'We want Ashwin and Vijay to play. They are both keen to play,' says Srinivasan.

In the on-going stretch of Test matches at home, Ashwin has featured in all eight Tests so far since September, having bowled a staggering 428.4 overs. The final Test against England will most-likely end on Tuesday, hence, it comes as a surprise that both these senior players have been asked to take the field again in a matter of three days.

Vijay and Ashwin's presence will certain bolster the Tamil Nadu side as they might be up for stiff opposition if both KL Rahul and Karun Nair turn up for Karnataka. However Vijay's shoulder injury sustained while fielding during the current Test match meant that he could not open the batting alongside Rahul. It is there to be seen if Vijay gets fit by the time the quarters start after the Test match concludes on December 20. The former BCCI president also wants Vijay to prove his fitness before the domestic game.

"Ashwin is going to Dubai to attend the inauguration of an academy the day after the Test ends but will be back in time for the Ranji quarterfinal," said Srinivasan.
