"We are going to medically insure our young sports stars from the coming academic year. This will certainly help them perform better. The insurance will cover injuries when they represent the university," Mumbai University sports director UN Kendre told dna.

Rajesh Sonawane, a member of the university's sports committee and sports director of Rizvi College that won the best sports college award for the fifth year in succession after topping with 1395 points, said it was a positive move.

"Now, sportspersons can play freely. Earlier, they would worry about getting injured as they would have to spend from their own pocket. Now they don't have to worry about injuries since they will be insured. This will also encourage them to give their best," said Sonawane.
