The turf will be the main concern for Salgaocar Sports Club, as they take on Mumbai FC in their first away encounter of the Airtel I-League at Shiv Chhatrapati sports complex in Balewadi, Pune on Friday. The Goan outfit will be playing on natural grass for the first time this season. Their last three outings were on the artificial surface of Duler ground.
“The boys are fit. The only concern will be the surface,” said Salgaocar coach Derrick Pereira while talking to dna on the eve of the match. Though Pereira himself is well versed with the venue due to his stint with Pune FC until this season but his boys are not used to the conditions.
Salgaocar’s received a warm welcome from the thunder showers as soon as they landed in Pune though it did not affect their practice session. But Pereira could not participate in the training due to health problems.
Augustin Fernandes is a doubtful starter for the Goan club after injuring himself against Dempo SC. Khalid Jamil and company will be raring to go for the first win at home after their two outings ended in draw.
“It has been twice we have shared points here, but now we will go for a win,” said Jamil.
