Aditya Tare has become Mumbai's new Ranji Trophy skipper post Suryakumar Yadav's resignation after the innings defeat to Tamil Nadu in Chennai recently.
The humiliating loss within three days, was Mumbai's fourth ever innings defeat ever in Ranji Trophy history, incidentally their first since 1951. On the other hand, Yadav aggregated 485 runs at an average of 53.88, including two centuries, despite his captaincy woes.Apart from Mumbai's on-field woes, Yadav was reprimanded by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for using abusive language on the field and in the dressing room. With Mumbai on the brink of elimination, Yadav had no hesitation in accepting the resignation proposal on Sunday.
Mumbai are placed sixth in Group A with 11 points from six games. They have won a solitary match against Uttar Pradesh, thanks to Shardul Thakur's late order heroics. A shock loss to Jammu & Kashmir at home followed, post which they conceded first-innings lead to Railways and Madhya Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium.
Yadav was appointed Mumbai captain earlier this season ahead of Abhishek Nayar, the initial choice. Mumbai have two games remaining against Baroda and defending champions Karnataka during the rest of their campaign.
