At Wellington on Friday, the Indian cricket team lost the fifth ODI losing the series 4-0 to New Zealand, a white-wash for the hosts.

India who have been the No1 ODI team were mauled by the Kiwis who rattled them with pace and aggression as they managed to win 4 of the 5 ODIs with the visitor's only managing to tie a match.

The Indian batting and fielding has been poor and the tigers at home and paper tigers away as an argument is gaining ground among critics of the team.

Virat Kohli has been the only star of the tournament as he managed to hold pride for the team's batsmen. MS Dhoni who became the fourth fastest batsman to complete 8,000 runs.

The wicket keeper-batsman has also scored some handy runs, but has been unable to use his team well to win a single match in New Zealand.

It's bad news for India who are the 50-over World Cup holders, as the 2015 tournament will be hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

India lost the seven-match ODI series in 2002-03, 2-5 to New Zealand.

The last time the India failed so badly was in 1975-76 and 1980-81 when they lost 0-2 in both two-match series.

Dhoni & Co will need to get their act together especially when it comes to their away from home performances, if they hope to retain the ODI World Cup.
